fOod waste reduction

through composting

the problem - food waste

Food waste makes up 24% of municipal solid waste- more than any other single material in our everyday trash! This food waste accounts for 34% of all methane emissions, a 295% increase from 1990 to 2020.

The U.S. wastes 92 billion pounds of food each year, producing about 55 metric tons of methane gas in 2020 (annual emissions with the same environmental impact as 15 coal-fired power plants!)

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas that actually traps more heat in our atmosphere than Carbon dioxide!

How can you partner with us?

Homeowners can stop by the store to “buy-a-bucket” to use for collection of your kitchen waste. Once your bucket is full, bring it by the store, where we’ll empty and clean your bucket for you!

Each drop-off gets you a punch, 10 can be redeemed for 20% OFF a purchase of herbs and perennials!

The solution- food waste composting

Fruit and veggie scraps, egg shells, coffee grounds, and kitchen paper waste (napkins, paper towels) can be composted instead of thrown away! Composting reduces waste and methane gas emissions, conserves water, and helps sequester Carbon.
